For you crochet heart you will need 2 colours of your chosen yarn. For my heart granny square I used Stylecraft Simply Chunky and a 6mm/J Clover Amour hook

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • ss – slip stitch
  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • 1/2 tr – half treble
  • tc – treble crochet
  • dt – double treble
  • tt – triple treble

To begin – make a slip knot, ch 4 and ss into first chain space – you will be working into the middle of this circle (no magic circle, yippee!!!!)

Round 1 – ch 3 (counts as a stitch) 11 tc into the the centre of your circle. Join to top of ch3 with a ss.

Round 2 – ch 3 (counts as a stitch) 1 tc into the same stitch that you ss into then 2 tc into each stitch around (23 tc + ch3)

Round 3 – Skip first 3 stitches

  • Tt crochet 8 times then 2 x dt all into the same stitch, 
  • Dt in next st
  • Dt in next stitch
  • Tc in next stitch
  • 1/2 tr in next stitch
  • Dc in next THREE stitches
  • 1/2 tr and tc in next st, ch 1 – this makes the point of your heart
  • Tc and 1/2 tr in next st
  • Dc in next 3 st
  • 1/2 tr in next st
  • Tc in next st
  • Dt in next 2 st
  • 2 x dt and 8 tt in next stitch
  • SS between 1st and last st of round 2

Round 4 – Attach yarn ch 4 (counts as a st)

  • DT into next 2 st
  • Tc in next 2 st
  • 5 x tc into same st
  • 1/2 tr in next st
  • Dc in next st
  • Ss into next 2 st (please keep these loose)
  • Dc in next st
  • 1/2 tr in next st
  • Tc in next st
  • DT in next 2 st
  • 5 x tt in next st
  • DT in next 2 st
  • TC in next st
  • 1/2 tr in next st
  • REACH POINT OF HEART – DC in ch 1 space
  • 1/2 tc in next stitch
  • tr in next st
  • Dt in next 2 st
  • 5 x TT in next st
  • DT in next 2 st
  • Tc in next st
  • 1/2 tr in next st
  • Dc in next st
  • SS in next 2 st (please keep these loose)
  • DC in. next st
  • 1/2 tr in next st
  • 5 x tc in next st
  • Tc in next 2 st
  • DT in next 2 st, SS to top of ch 4 to join

Round 5 – Chain 3, tc into next 6 st. For the corner tc x 2, ch 1, tc x 2 all into the same stitch. *Tc into next 13 st, tc x 2, ch 1, tc x 2 all into the same stitch. Repeat * to * for a total of 3 times. Tc into the last of the 6 st from the previous rounds. ss to top of starting ch 3 to join.
